Innovation and cooperation: Visa SpA and Baudouin together for a more sustainable future

Visa SpA is engaged in an important strategic collaboration with Baudouin, the international engine manufacturer, for the development of advanced and sustainable technologies.
This partnership is born from the sharing of common values, such as respect for the environment, the pursuit of cutting-edge technological solutions and the guarantee of reliability in products. In particular Baudouin has chosen Visa SpA, as the exclusive partner in Europe to launch the new 6M33 model engine, a Stage V engine designed to ensure low emissions and high performance.

The 6M33 engine has been installed on a genset that is currently in the prototyping phase. The machine is now undergoing a rigorous testing process at Visa's modern facilities, where technicians and engineers from both companies are working side by side. These tests, carried out in advanced testing rooms, involve numerous evaluations of performance, reliability and compliance with the highest standards and environmental regulations.

Once the verification protocols and validation process are successfully completed, the generating set will be integrated into Visa's rental division fleet, paving the way for its future deployment in the construction, rental, and other applications requiring machines that are highly robust yet lightweight and reliable.

This cooperation represents a unique opportunity to compare technologies and expertise. The engineering teams from both companies are working in close synergy, combining their knowledge to develop a machine that not only meets the current market demands but also aims to set future standards.

CASE HISTORY

Project:                         Equipment for Rental Department
Location:                       Visa Rental fleet
Installed power:           650 kVA (PRP)
Gensets supplied:        1 unit model BD 655S, automatic control panel for parallel synchronization, in silent silent version

Purpose:

To develop an innovative machine that meets the requirements of robustness and lightness, particularly suitable for the rental sector, while ensuring compliance with the strictest European emission regulations. A prototype that not only meets the current market demands but is also capable of setting future standards.

Technical features:

Genset equipped with Baudouin engine model 6M33G2D5, stage V. The first engine of this type produced by Baudouin has been supplied to Visa to be installed on the genset currently in production. The engine is equipped with engine preheater, fuel preheating, oil level monitoring and a fuel filter with a water separator. Stamford alternatore model HCI5F, with PMG and AVR MX 321.
ComAp automatic control panel model   InteliGen500-G2 to operate in parallel mode.
Silent version, mounted on C60 canopy, with 1000 liters fuel-tank integrated onboard and fast fuel connectors to connect to an additional external tank.

Stage V engine:

The 6M engine complies with EU Stage V NRMM regulations and integrates innovative technologies, including Exhaust After-Treatment Systems (EATS) with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), ensuring compliance across a wide power range of Baudouin products.
Automatic resistive benches (dummy load) preserve the engine and the aftertreatment system even in case of low electrical load. These solutions deliver optimal performance, making the engine ideal for high-usage applications.   Thanks to these features, it can significantly reduce emissions. Moreover, it offers additional features that improve operating efficiency, while contributing to reduce costs.

The engine is composed of two urea tanks of 60 liters each, which guarantee autonomy of up to 24 hours.

HVO Compatibility:

All the M series engine are compatible with Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a renewable fuel source. HVO offers several advantages for both engine performance and environmental impact.

Control panel :

The electricity generator is equipped with an automatic control panel ComAp InteliGen 500 for parallel management.

Remote monitoring: The machine is provided with a remote control system WebSuperVisorPlus via GSM that allows the customer to monitor in real time the main parameters and alarms. It allows to plan timely intervention if needed, including to start or stop the machine remotely. Visa technical department is always connected remotely to ensure immediate machine assistance when needed.

Special configuration for Visa Rental Fleet

Gensets destined to the rental sector must be engineered and manufactured to withstand greater demands for durability and reliability compared to other applications. They are frequently used in diverse and often unpredictable or challenging environments. These generating sets must deliver peak performance in extreme climatic conditions as well as in industrial or urban settings, where prolonged continuous operation and exceptional resilience are required.

The genset offers the following equipment, specific for the Visa rental range:

KIT CE: kit composed of four-pole magneto-thermal switches, earth fault relay, protection grills of thermal bands for the insulation of hot parts.

Oil level sender mod. Murphy: electromechanical device for the monitoring and control of the engine’s lubricating oil level. Connected to the generator’s control system, it provides the signal that will cause the shutdown of the engine in case of liquid level under minimum level or over maximum level. It also enables visual control of the oil level, through the glass window with which it is provided.

Socket kit: after testing and validation operations, prior to delivery, a customized socket kit will be added to the canopy, consisting of IP 65 watertight sockets with a mechanical-electrical interlocking system that guarantees maximum safety.

Canopy:

Controlling noise levels is another critical requirement for generating sets to minimize environmental impact and support sustainable operation in residential or noise-sensitive areas. They must adhere to the noise limits established by local and international regulations.

Soundproof canopy C60
It is composed of galvanized steel sheets, painted with thermosetting powder. The steel sheets are assembled after they have been painted to ensure maximum robustness and resistance to rust and to atmospheric agents. Provided with openable panels, the canopy guarantees high-level of accessibility.

Soundproofing is ensured by a double exhaust muffler that reduces the noise.

Handling system:

Rental service machines must be designed with a practical transport and handling system. The unit features integrated hooks in the canopy for overhead lifting and pockets in the baseframe to facilitate forklift handling.

Baseframe:

The genset is equipped with a 1000-liter fuel tank with an oil retention basin integrated onboard for an operating autonomy of 10 hours at 75% PRP.
In addition, in the lower part of the base-frame, there is a drip tray to prevent possible leaks of liquids from the machine.

Fast connection system is included, used to connect the genset’s integrated fuel-tank to an external tank.

Conclusions:

The project demonstrates the trust that Baudouin places in Visa's experience and technical skills. Due to the dedication of both companies, the prototype is anticipated to enter standard production shortly, ready for deployment in Visa's rental fleet across various application sectors. This project represents a significant milestone toward more sustainable and innovative production, highlighting how cooperation between partners can create solutions that tackle global challenges and meet the growing market demand for high performance and environmental responsibility.
